Suqqu Kakitsubata vs Konruri

Suqqu Kakitsubata was a staple in my make up routine and one of my favourite palettes. I can't believe I purged this beauty (I had my five wild minutes, I guess), well, after hearing it is going to be discontinued, I am very glad I could still grab one (actually ... thank you so much lovely UK friend for helping me out!).

I wasn't that much interested in Konruri but when the first swatches popped up a new lemming was born. I was very curious about the deep blue colour and if Konruri actually is a dupe? Or even better? Or maybe even a dead loss?

Just from looking at those palettes I prefer Kakitsubata but when swatched, Konruri is a) no dupe and b) way prettier than expected and much more complex looking.

The base colour is a milky white, matte (less yellow looking irl)
The champagne colour contains tiny, iridescent peach and silver shimmer.
The warm, medium bronze contains warm golden shimmer, very sparse.
The deep navy blue contains very tiny and sparse pink and blue sparkles, satin.

Surpsrisingly, I feel like Suqqu's new released palettes have a slightly better texture, smoother and some colours almost appear wet. The dark navy blue in Kakitsubata is drier and not as pigmented as Konruri's deep ocean blue.

The base colour is a very light pink, matte.
The warm, orange champagne colour contains orange copper, warm gold shimmer and sparse light green sparkles.
The taupe contains light green, light red orange and champagne shimmer (feels so creamy!).
The purple based medium blue (looks lighter in pics and much more blue toned) contains mermaid green/blue shimmer and sparse light green sparkles.
The deep ocean blue contains very sparse pink red, medium blue and green sparkles.

Konruri's two wonderful blue shades look very complex in real life. The medium blue is way more purple (mermaid purple blue?) and deeper. I wish I could have catched a bit of sunlight  to show the iridescent base those colours have.

Overall, Kakitsubata is warmer than Konruri, neither a dupe nor worse, just different. I have to admit, that my side by side pictures are not the best, I tried to catch the exact colour but it just didn't work out, my cam is old *pets* and without sunlight it kinda takes weird close ups. I hope, I could at least show the difference though.

Konruri is a great addition to my Suqqu palettes I already have. What's a bit disappointing though, the taupe is very very close to Himesango's taupe, since Suqqu will release more palettes, I wish a bit more variation when it comes to all the browns and taupes. I haven't really reviewed the texture and brushes but you can find a detailed review here.

    1. Suqqu is a great brand, also I am sad they are discontinuing so many products now. You can get Suqqu in the UK (Selfridges, they also take phone orders or UK friend) or ichibankao.com (markup). I really wish Suqqu would be available everywhere *sigh*.

  3. Your swatches are fantasticly clear! An excellent comparison. Thank you. The palettes really are not the almost dupes I had thought they were. Thank Heavens I have the Himesango taupe or I'd feel HUGELY tempted by Konkuri.

    1. IKR? I also thought those palettes were a dupe but they are not, not even close. Himesango is a must have for everyone who loves taupes and browns, I really like the peachy shade there as well. I have to say, Konruri's blues are very pretty, even more irl, so complex and iridescent.

    2. Yipp, the peachy shade of Himesango is also a fav of mine right now:)
I'm loving the peachy/apricot shades of Nars Ramatuelle too which just shows how influenced I am by current colour trends. A few years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of applying peachy colors to my eyes nor 'old fashioned' coral colours on my nails.
Sorry about the 'fantasticly' above - should have proof-read.

  6. Thank you for this post! I had originally tried to track down Kakitsubata when I heard it was being dc'd, but decided to buy Konruri because of those gorgeous blues. You're right- the Himesango taupe is very similar. Still, these are such complex shades that I can't be disappointed :)

    1. Hi Julia:) They are both pretty imo and HImesango is totally different (beside the taupe of course). For me, they are all worth having, also, I find Kakitsubata is one of their best palettes.

  8. omg, wow! These are sooooo so pretty! I don't own anything from Suqqu but it's one of the brands I want to try the most!!! I just hate having to order online and overseas--but something tell me it will be worth it to own something--anything--from this brand! The shadows look so pigmented and soft! And i know it's a brand that many pros use and adore.

PS: I really like your swatch photos! You do a great job

  9. Suqqu is a brand that squeeze my wallet a lot! I have Himesango and I love the texture so much! It has very less fallouts and it's very pigmented. I like Konkuri as it has more colors and I can choose to wear blue or brown :)
